Samsung Electronics is stepping up the commercial launching of various foldable form-factors encouraged by the larger-than-expected success of its foldable smartphones. The industry watches whether Samsung can dominate the global market with its foldable series.

One of the design was approved and was made public by the World Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO) in July 2021. WIPO's approval reveals a 'multi-foldable electronic device', designed by Samsung. It resembles a foldable-convertible-laptop with a detachable display.

The application was filed in July 2021 and was published by WIPO on the 13th of January this year. This 'laptop' can be reduced to 25% of its original size, when folded. The stylus can be used and the display also functions as a tablet PC.

At CES 2022 earlier last month, Samsung Display, an affiliate of Samsung group, presented a prototype laptop, named 'Flex Note' with a screen that is 17-inch, when unfolded. The horizonal folding can reduce it to mere 13-inch form-factor.

There are also expectations that Samsung will roll out 'Galaxy Book Fold 17'. Currently Lenovo ThinkPad x1 is the only foldable laptop in the market. Intel·Dell also unveiled prototypes of foldable laptops last year, but the global strains on supply of semiconductors adversely affected the production, according to market analysts.

However, market experts believe that 'foldable laptop' industry will increase its presence in the market. Display-focused market research company, Global market insight, expects the foldable and rollable laptops market to grow as Samsung and Lenovo is jumping in this line-up.

"Foldable laptops are growing at a slower pace, compared to the smartphone, but the growth rate is expected to surge in line with the sales trend of foldable smartphones."
